Elevator Etiquette

Elevator Etiquette

For those situations when you find yourself in a building with more than one elevator
  1. Next to each elevator, you will find two buttons from which you can summon the elevator. Pressing the top button indicates you wish to go up. Selecting the lower button indicates you wish to descend. Chose your direction by selecting one of these buttons.
  2. Above each elevator are two lights.  After step 1. either the top or bottom light will illuminate indicating which direction the elevator is moving, and which elevator is responding to your summons.
  3. Proceed to the elevator that is responding and stand several paces back from in front of the doors.
  4. When the doors open wait for any passengers to disembark
  5. Enter the elevator (only after everyone disembarking has cleared off), select the floor you wish to go to, and press the door close button (if you are the last to enter).
  6. Enjoy your ride
If you fail to abide by step 3. don’t be surprised when the people already on the elevator press the door close button and depart without you.
If you fail to abide by step 4, don’t be surprised when people trying to exit the elevator comment on your ignorance.
Thank You

Moon Festival

Happy Moon Festival everyone. Or Mid Autumn Festival, whichever you prefer. Rare day off in the middle of the week, so I’m going to celebrate by seeking out and chewing down on some moon cakes. Four days remaining on this trip (one day short of three weeks). Whew!

United Airlines

Can’t believe I’m doing this, but I must give kudos to United for the flights yesterday (today?). We were delayed over 2 hours leaving SFO due to weather on the east coast, so we arrived late for our connection in Newark. United was continually updating us on the flight status while we waited at SFO thru phone calls and e-mails. Then when we arrived in Newark, they had staff there to get us onto a cart where they whisked us off to our gate while the plane waited. More staff at the gate to make sure we got aboard. And our luggage made it to Lisbon with us. All in all, some excellent service from United yesterday. Obrigado!

So as expected, it’s going to be a long haul to get everything I want in here. Not much published, but the pages are getting organized, and the pictures are being uploaded.
